Bernadette - 21 d 13 h ago

Dear Fox New Reporters, I forward this message to you as individuals who, hopefully, have a willingness to read and accept different perspectives in honoring significant historical events. Please do not become what so many of our legislators seem to have become in 'walking in lockstep with a very uncompromising' philosophy of being. I do not 'tweet' nor speak to antagonize others. I do wish that Fox News members understand that real people are being harmed by distortion of word meaning. With hope for the future, Bernadette Fox News deliberately misleads about MLK:(Martin Luther King Day) This morning, Fox News marked the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday by publishing a ridiculous article with the headline "Please stop politicizing Martin Luther King Day. It's a day for national unity, not political division." They are deliberately lying to Americans about what this day means -- and what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. fought for and actually believed. He knew that his life and the work of racial and economic justice were inherently political. With Donald Trump in the White House, working with Fox News to reinforce white supremacy and attack Black protest, it's worth remembering exactly what Dr. King said about racial justice, economic justice, and politics. We thought we'd share a few key ideas Dr. King said or wrote during his life and invite you to reflect on them. "First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection." -- Letter from Birmingham Jail, April 1963 "We must recognize that we can't solve our problem now until there is a radical redistribution of economic and political power this means a revolution of values and other things. We must see now that the evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism are all tied together you can't really get rid of one without getting rid of the others the whole structure of American life must be changed. America is a hypocritical nation and [we] must put [our] own house in order." -- Report to SCLC staff, May 1967 "Why is equality so assiduously avoided? Why does white America delude itself, and how does it rationalize the evil it retains? The majority of white Americans consider themselves sincerely committed to justice for the Negro. They believe that American society is essentially hospitable to fair play and to steady growth toward a middle-class Utopia embodying racial harmony. But unfortunately this is a fantasy of self-deception and comfortable vanity... Whites, it must frankly be said, are not putting in a similar mass effort to reeducate themselves out of their racial ignorance. It is an aspect of their sense of superiority that the white people of America believe they have so little to learn. The reality of substantial investment to assist Negroes into the twentieth century, adjusting to Negro neighbors and genuine school integration, is still a nightmare for all too many white AmericansThese are the deepest causes for contemporary abrasions between the races. Loose and easy language about equality, resonant resolutions about brotherhood fall pleasantly on the ear, but for the Negro there is a credibility gap he cannot overlook. He remembers that with each modest advance the white population promptly raises the argument that the Negro has come far enough. Each step forward accents an ever-present tendency to backlash." -- "Where do we go from here?" August 1967 "Our nation was born in genocide when it embraced the doctrine that the original American, the Indian, was an inferior race. Even before there were large numbers of Negroes on our shore, the scar of racial hatred had already disfigured colonial society. From the sixteenth century forward, blood flowed in battles over racial supremacy. We are perhaps the only nation which tried as a matter of national policy to wipe out its indigenous population. Moreover, we elevated that tragic experience into a noble crusade. Indeed, even today we have not permitted ourselves to reject or feel remorse for this shameful episode. Our literature, our films, our drama, our folklore all exalt it. Our children are still taught to respect the violence which reduced a red-skinned people of an earlier culture into a few fragmented groups herded into impoverished reservations." - "Why We Can't Wait, 1963" If you've read this far in the email, why not take a moment to scroll back up and re-read these quotes again. And once you have, please join your fellow Democracy for America members in making a personal commitment to taking actions and fighting for racial justice and economic equality. That is just one of many ways to make today a meaningful day. And you'll also help show Fox News you won't let them smear Dr. King's legacy -- or stop this country from working to achieve the justice for which he gave his life. Thank you. Sage to Bernadette - 21 d 12 h ago

Bernadette, You, in your diatribe reveal much about yourself. First you are verbose, and in your collection of various allegations, you really do not convey a lucent message.

People who wish to have their views understood by readers, know to organize their message, and state it concisely.

You seem to be speaking of the relative importance ranking of law and order and justice. Shouldn't they both be of equal importance?

Then you bring up genocide and racial superiority and in 1967 our Nation was born in genocide?

Your rambling attempt to communicate an understandable message misses the mark. If you really want to be heard, organize your thoughts, state them concisely, and state your conclusions.

Sage on Democracy for America. - 21 d 11 h ago

Further investigation reveals that the organization "Democracy for America" is a lift wing political organization founded by former Democratic Presidential Candidate Howard Dean. Remember the scream that drove him out of the race, when people thought he was deranged. Well, I guess those people were correct, and the rambling screed from Bernadette is an example of the old adage that 'losers congregate together'.

Good for you for thinking for yourself. People like you are in the minority today. Many don't investigate, search alternative websites or news that reflect views other than their own and the result is this incredible divide where no one gives an inch, compromises or is seeking balance. Our country is all about balance of power and that means that all sides, opinions, parties have relevance and should be considered in negotiations. It's not my way or the highway, although that seems to be where we've come.

Interesting response. Instead of expressing your overall displeasure, why do you not be more specific. Do you dislike the Robber Barons who played a large part in the development of the country, or are you just criticizing today's elite. Maybe those old people that you speak of so fondly, also had to deal with the Carnegie, Rockefeller, Morgan, and many other elite bankers and industrialists of those days. The world has always consisted of people who are the doers, the helpers, and the complainers. Progress comes from the doers and the helpers!

Why is the poster's opinion not useful? It is useful to concentrate on because what happens in the next few weeks or months will affect all of us. Hopefully we'll know the facts and can have some organized output from the White House staff, the President, and those who speak for him. Right now we're hearing many different versions, some denials, some deflections, some acknowledgments, and the obsequious fake news. Taxpayers, citizens, all have every right to know what some semblance of the truth is.

Response to anonymous et all,

All should remember the wise words of President Truman who said,"the only thing New today, is the history you do not know."

The intrigue in Washington has been replayed over and over since the beginning of the Republic. Even President Washington expressed his concern over formation of Political Parties, that he cautioned could destroy the cohesion of the Nation.

Reply 2: for 2 comment to anonymous - 8 d 17 h ago

Yes, we are hearing much information. So far it is void of facts or proof - just hate and emotion. Anonymous posting was emotional rather than offering proven substance from which a conversation or debate can take place.

General profile image

emotions - 8 d ago

This "devoid of emotion" criterion seems to be another catch all phrase, like fake news, witch hunts, hoaxes. It keeps being repeated on this site. Of course posts that are hate based should never be tolerated, but opinions may reflect feelings connected with various topics, some of which are fact based.

General profile image

Sage - 5 d 14 h ago

What are fact based? Your opinions or your feelings and do you include the facts in your postings. I do not want you to think I'm in anyway being critical, I would just like to know how use facts when stating your opinion or feeling. Regards

General profile image

to Sage about facts - 5 d 3 h ago

The question is how do we determine what is fact based? One source provides facts from supposedly reliable sources and agencies, and we can then turn to other stations or media outlets that offer information, also claimed to be from reliable sources that offer completely different and often contradictory conclusions. And they all claim to hold the truth about any particular issue. And of course they each also benefit from their often biased reporting. Many people only "trust" one station, anchor, commentator and refuse to listen to others. And I'm including both liberals and conservatives and not intending to place blame on anyone. It's just frustrating!

General profile image

2 anonymous - 8 d 17 h ago

Only those complainers who offer fact-based and well researched information.

General profile image

for 2 anonymous - 8 d ago

I can understand on some levels what the poster was trying to say. Many are frustrated at trying to determine what the facts are, and I'm one of them. As has been said, some reports are presented as credible by only a few media sources, others are acknowledged as having been verified by all, some seem to be ignored or discussion of them is diverted, many are denied by the President or in press briefings, etc. etc. But responses on this board are often that people should present "fact based and well researched" information for discussion and of course, it's usually followed by stating that responses should be devoid of emotion.

I continually research and attempt to seek out the facts and often am unable to figure out what in the heck they are.

I'm not meaning this as a criticism. It just seems to be the reality we're faced with when any new issue is presented to the public.

General profile image

Calvin responds to anonymous - 7 d 18 h ago

Intellectual curiosity is a virtue. Blathering and repeating hearsay, is not a virtue. Research and knowledge are the basis of intellectual discourse. Embarrassing one self with emotional rambling serves no useful purpose, and only identifies the writer as either a bot, a troll, or a Democrat.

General profile image

Anonymous - 7 d 13 h ago

Do you think Trump has intellectual curiosity? Guess again. Does he engage in embarrassing emotional rambling? Yes.

This man is doing everything possible to obstruct and the cowardly bully who enjoys engaging in cruel, humiliating tactics is a disgrace.

So telling that the nasty labels many attribute to others often describe the Donald.

General profile image

to 2 anonymous - 7 d 7 s ago

Many people consider watching only one station to garner news as being well informed and having done their research. Do you think this leads to fact based information?

General profile image

2 to anonymous - 6 d 9 h ago

There is no doubt that many consider being well informed by watching only one TV Chanel, listening to only one station while driving, reading only one newspaper, etc. Your comment pointing this question is a very good one. IIf I may, I would suggest many consider themselves well informed and knowledgeable when looking to twitter, late night programs, etc for information. Thank you for posting.

General profile image

for 2 to anonymous - 6 d 3 h ago

I certainly agree. Twitter, Facebook, entertainment type or late night programs are generally not reliable sources of information. Even though all cable stations do have partisan bias, each may also offer some valid information. It's just difficult sometimes trying to sort it all out and to separate opinions from facts.

Thanks for your reply.

Tomi Lahren remarks - 5 d ago

What is happening to us as a society that we continually are exposed to crude remarks, videos, tweets, and that we tolerate them, regardless of who spews them? All parties contribute to this.

It has been a long standing tradition that following the SOTU address, a spokesperson from the opposing party offers rebuttals.

We don't have to agree with their comments. But now Tomi Lahren, a Fox news contributor, deletes the video in which she called Mr. Kennedy a "limp d--k". It reflects a pattern, one that's becoming the norm and that we're becoming desensitized to. Make cruel and vulgar comments, then offer a lame apology, then delete the tweet or video and claim you didn't really mean to say that and that the comments don't really reflect who you are. Bunch of crap.

Any and all who play into this or consider it to be acceptable need to think of the message it's sending to our children and grandchildren.

General profile image

to Tomi L. remarks - 3 d ago

It is a disturbing trend, not only in politics but in our everyday lives. Responses made impulsively, often in anger, with no reflection or thought. And as you said, we seem to expect these reactions and excuse others when we hear or read them. Social media has many benefits if used wisely. But we seem to be losing the ability to have meaningful conversations. And by that I mean sitting down face to face, listening respectfully and truly hearing what the other person is saying, to resolve differences and to offer heartfelt apologies when needed.

While I did hear Tami Lahren's remarks, I completely agree with your overall comments. Thank you for sharing them with us. In this light, I have not figured out why Fox has hired some of their "contributors". Not only this young lady, but Marie Harf, Richard Folwer and the continuing Juan Williams come to mind. Guess Fox either does not screen, does not care, or just does not pay enough money for credible, knowledgeable people to be part of their personnel base. OR maybe, it is just me and my expectations. Thanks again.

Oh, the drama - 1 d 18 h ago

Unbelievable some of the comments about the "memo". Sean Hannity goes into a dramatic, paranoid monologue that the memo will prove to be the the biggest scandal in American history. And after listening to his pal bloviate, Geraldo boasts that Nixon wouldn't have had to resign if someone like Hannity had been around.

Then a letter in the Nixon library is discovered between Nixon and Roger Ailes throwing out the idea in the '70's of a t.v. station that would promote GOP policies. They think it might work because they claimed people who watch t.v. are lazy and with a station of this sort they could just sit back, watch, listen and not have to think. I believe they got their wish.

General profile image

reply to Tepky 2 - 1 d ago

It is hard to figure out why many of the stations hire some of the people who are on the air. Many are turning into entertainment type shows rather than credible sources for news and facts.

One of the trends I've seen is that viewers are accepting often biased comments of anchors, guests and so called experts as facts. Much of the time they are simply opinions and should be viewed as such. It's been a long time since I've seen a respectful and informative debate on any channel. Even if the information seems credible, we rarely have a chance to hear any of them finish their thoughts because they're too busy interrupting, yelling or trying to talk over one another.

This is the reality. Many people, including some in my family and among our friends, never switch channels. Whether they are inclined to more liberal or conservative agendas, they swear that "their" channel broadcasts only the truth and facts. General profile image

Sage to Old Girl - 7 d 12 h ago

Great to hear from you and hope all is well.

I believe HST would not have sat by while the Democrat Party turned into a Big Government Socialist leaning Organization. As I remember, President Truman came from a conservative background in Missouri. He had an austere beginning, worked the family farm, and finally became partner in a men's store. In other words he had a tough early life, and that is why I think that he would always want to give people who were having hard times, a helping hand. However, I do not think he would be in favor of our country incurring trillions of dollars of debt to support people who are too lazy to work. Nor do I think he would be in favor of the open door immigration mess that has turned our nation into lawlessness, drugs, and gangs. Remember, Harry was a law and order man, who never shied away from following the Constitution, as it was written. Although he could be partisan at times, I never got the impression that he ever compromised when it came to doing what was right for America. He believed in our country, worked hard to make it better, and never personally profited from his service. If only we had more like him today!

Regarding Ms. Angelou, I suspect she would be bringing her special messaging to us today as she always did. Se had the keen ability to see the things in life that most overlooked, and write about them in a way that taught us all to recognize their importance. She was a talented bard of our times, and the only thing that approached the quality of her writings, was her beautiful reading to an audience of what she had written. That voice that conveyed her passion for life, mixed with the sweetness of someone from the south, was truly captivating. I miss her greatly, but I'm sure the Lord is enjoying her company.

My dear friend is still with us. I think she's in that stage that hospice describes as kind of a burst of energy before one dies. So it's sad but has given us a bit more time with her. I thought of you because one of her requests was for my husband and I to read some of Maya A's quotes! It brought smiles to her face and also inspired us. One she liked said something to the effect that we all need to continue being who we are and to "astonish a mean world with our acts of kindness." So true.

Have thought often that in these crazy times I'd love to sit down with HST for a chat, but reading your post was the next best thing!

In case you haven't been informed, we are guaranteed freedom of religion in this great country of ours. As someone stated on t.v. last week, some of us are tired of being lectured by certain Christian groups as to how to act, what to do, what to believe, who we can love or aren't permitted to love and what spiritual path we must follow, lest we go to hell.

The disgraceful behaviors and hateful comments you excuse of some of your role models, such as Roy Moore, make me question what your values truly are and they seem far removed from the loving messages Jesus imparted.

Follow your own path but knock off the evangelizing to those of us whom you feel you have to "save."

Instead of spending your time telling people they may end up as trophies in hell, maybe you could send some bucks to one of your Born again brothers? Judge Moore has been asking for $ to investigate election fraud, even though he still will not admit that he lost. He also wants your money to defend himself in a defamation lawsuit by one of his accusers. She's not asking for money, just an apology.

There are many fine people who follow your religious path and beliefs. But please take a closer look at some of the others who are not so fine, instead of making judgments about who gets to enter the pearly gates.

Many of Trumps critics are rather shallow thinking, self proclaimed elitists. Many received their education on Facebook and Twitter. Those who are educated, or brainwashed, attend colleges like Brown or Occidental. These folks probably never heard of U of P Wharton, and certainly never attended there. You see, Wharton graduates go on to build businesses and jobs. The other side frequently become bureaucrats, that work to stifle growth and development. Facts are stubborn things!

Some didn't attend U of P Wharton. One in particular did attend Occidental where you claim he may have been brainwashed? He then graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. The person you mention is a great example of the bureaucrats that I refer to above. Whether educated or brainwashed, his job performance was appalling, and our country suffered greatly because of his ineptness. If you remember Buckley, he once said he would sooner be governed by the first 10 people in the phone book, than the folks in Washington. Eminent, you bring up some very good points. Trump may have made millions or billions but at what cost, by what means, and who was affected by his business practices? It's all about the mighty dollar regardless of how you obtain it. The same is true with his presidency. Supporters overlook many dubious behaviors and cruel antics because they feel he's getting things done. Even some religious groups excuse his nastiness because after all, he's against abortion, same sex marriage and all the "values" they embrace. We all need to look at our Presidents objectively. That means lauding them for their accomplishments but keeping an open mind when there are concerns. Why do supporters feel Trump should be immune to this? One reason seems to be that he demands it. Can not tolerate criticism, lashes out at anyone who dares to challenge him, and fires those whom he does not feel are loyal or "his guys". He still can't adjust to not being in complete control and often has no clue as to what our Founding Fathers established as a check and balances system in government.

As you said, look it up. But the loyal base never will.

How true you are. We were much better off with the polished orator. Did you enjoy the $2500 a year you saved as a result of socialized Obamacare or maybe high unemployment, high taxes, stifling regulations that prevented growth in business and GNP, unlawful executive orders leaving us DACA to deal with, just to name a few attributes of the past administered. That is all okay because he was gracious and polished. As you mentioned the "mighty dollar", don't overlook the Clinton approach to obtaining their monies. I have been both a registered Democrat and registered Republican. I do not adhere to any presidents "demand" as you stated, but make an effort to look at the big picture and potential end result. This, for me, can only be accomplished through research, appreciating as well as respecting other opinions, and listening. It seems you feel those you do not adhere to your way of thinking are not informed - you are wrong, with your inference they have "no clue" being offensive. No doubt you will run to cast your vote against our current president. At least you will vote, but before you do, return to the government any relief you may enjoy in your life as a result of tax reform, manufacturing returning to our country, relaxed or eliminated stifling regulations, beginning of wage increase, lowest unemployment in the African American community since these statistics began or any bonus you may have received. We need to return to the Nancy Peloski, Chuck Schumer and Maxine Waters majority.

I too have voted for the candidate and not just the political parties they represent. And I think the writer you responded to was saying that Presidents should be praised for their agendas and even intentions. I have been and will continue to be thankful for any tax cuts, bonuses or wage increases as well as increased border security. I am on SS plus some income from a part time job.

But the economy is not the only thing that matters, at least in my opinion. I did vote for Donald Trump. But I am disappointed in the ways he seems to be contributing to our divisiveness and lack of compromise. I don't approve of his continual need to focus upon himself and take credit for any and every thing that takes place, or his divisive tweets. Would I vote for him again? I don't know. The next 3 years will tell.

We need to acknowledge strengths and weaknesses of each POTUS. Obama may have been deficient in some ways but I've always admired the compassion and heart he showed us over the years. I'm sorry, but I don't sense that from Donald Trump. The main emotion he seems to display is anger and the need for revenge. I truly wish we could combine both of their qualities as they each have and had something to offer. .Obama could have benefited from Trump's assertiveness and taking firm action and President Trump could learn a thing or two about compassion, compromise and letting things go, with grace.

I have a personal interest also, when I witness bullying and cruel rhetoric, whether through tweets or any other origin.

He also was constantly questioned as to "just what are you?"; Are you black, white? and so on. Anyway, he did not return the anger and as a result, his dignity and acceptance of himself and others diminished the bigotry of some, although not all.

Nasty and arrogant reply to Bernadette's post. Maybe we all need to reread and ponder Dr. King's messages. Of course for some they aren't relevant since the group she refers to was started by a Democrat.

Words have power and we are in the midst of observing how they can hurt, divide, humiliate and promote racism, whether you are willing to acknowledge that or not. President Trump spent yesterday golfing while the three previous presidents engaged in public service while in office, to honor MLK's legacy. Oh that's right; Trump harshly criticized Obama for playing too much golf and said he wouldn't play golf if he was elected because he'd be working too hard.

You wanted her to state her conclusions. She did. I don't remember reading yours, except your labeling of her post as a rambling screed, containing leftist and loser ideas. Let's hear from you.

While your views are worth sharing, the posting by Bernadette was disorganized and offered a lot of rambling. Hopefully, she will assemble her thoughts in a concise, to the point manner, and share with us again. Sage's reply to her was not arrogant or nasty. He simply stated what is true. Perhaps President Trump should have participated in a MLK day event, I don't know the reasons he did not. Maybe you remember when former President Obams was so disrespectful that he not only played golf, but wore golf attire, while addressing the beheading, by ISIS, of journalist James Foley. This took place at the same Mr. Foley's family was trying to cope with an unthinkable, heart-breaking loss. It isn't difficult to find positives, but is difficult to find, create or waste engery on negatives.

For a better understanding of her organization, do a web search for 'Democracy for America'. Then judge for yourself if this organization promotes Democracy.

Secondarily, the President did have a MLK ceremony at the White House, that was attended by many African American leaders. He also awarded a grant to the new AA museum.

And the President's MLK ceremony was held at the almost exact same time that he made his shi-h--- comments about Haiti and Africa, not even to mention his Aids and returning to African huts remarks. Which Trump are we supposed to support? I believe with all my heart that these remarks are credible I have also believed that many of the leaks ( not of classified material) are coming from White House staff who are worried about the atmosphere and chaos in the Oval office.

Bernadette's post appeared to be rambling but was a compilation of Dr. King's quotes which are still so relevant today. I don't remember many conservatives offering realistic assessment of our President on this website. It's either "oh, he PROBABLY shouldn't have said that, but...." or "well, that's just who he is" or deflecting to "well, Hillary, Bill, Obama did the same thing" or "nobody is perfect." Few address the specific concerns that are brought up and are content to view continual twitter responses as acceptable ways for a President to communicate. These tweets are meant soley for his base. Many " socialist liberals" have offered objective views while still acknowledging his accomplishments. Yes, the economy is better. So now we'll all have more $ in our IRA's, maybe a slight increase in pay, we may get the wall but guess who's going to pay for it? Not Mexico as he promised again and again. We'll continue refusing to listen to differing views, unwilling to compromise and making excuses for disrespectful, sometimes racist and ad hominem comments from our President.

Doesn't sound like progress to me. But guess that means I will continue to be a leftist loser in Sage's mind.

It's good to know you will probably contribute any increase in monies you might realize from the tax reform back to the government. Oh, don't overlook those pesky corporations and/or small businesses giving bonuses to their employees while putting funds back into their compsnirs for job creation. Many accomplishments, whether we agree with them or not, have been made. What did you do with the $2500 Obama said you would save as a result of Obamacare?

There several ways Mexico can pay for any border protection regardless of who fronts the money. If one life or future is saved as a result of a "border wall" it is worth the money. If you don't live in a sanctuary city or state, you are not really experiencing the problems that open or lax borders present.

Some people have problems accepting the truth. These are shithouse countries, and this is true. The reference is to countries not people. If he said this, I don't like it, but I am not going to blow up the potential agreement to resolve DACA, over a pique of heated discussion. Also, if Durban had any respect for the Presidency, running to the Press to tattle, does not show it. It's just another example of a deranged politician trying to damage the President.

General profile image

tattling - 20 d ago

Oh, so Senator Durbin was tattling to the press by verifying a racist remark our President made?

I do recall Trump giggling in the Oval office with his Russian visitor pals and telling them that James Comey was a real nut job and that firing him relieved some of the pressure from the Russian investigation. Didn't even have the courage to tell him in person and Comey had to learn about his firing from watching t.v.

What's that you were saying about respect?

General profile image

Sage to tattling - 19 d 15 h ago

Tattling

As frequently happens, liberals spout information not based in fact.

The President made no racial remark! Only a racist would assign racism to whatever he said. Racism has become the fall back position that liberals use to disparage others, with whom they disagree.

Comey was fired because he was an inept manager. He left Obama stack the highest levels of FBI management with partisan operatives. He had a great reputation when appointed, but he squandered it, by failing to see what was happening with his subordinates. He will be fortunate if he is not indicted.

Regarding the method of his firing is not clear. I heard him say that he heard it on a news broadcast in California. If true, I do not agree with the method. He should have been told by the Attorney General, the Chief of Staff of the President, or the President himself that it was time for him to leave. But as I said above, I really have not heard exactly how the White House handled it. He did need to be replaced for the reason stated above.

General profile image

more about tattling - 19 d 29 m ago

You claim that liberals spout information not based on fact. Confused as to why you say that the method of Comey's firing was or is unclear or that you're uncertain how the White House handled it?

The facts are that it was reported on all stations, including Fox. He was giving a speech to FBI agents in L.A. and had to learn of it on t.v. As we now know, the reasons given were contradictory. First it was supposedly because of Comey's method of investigating Clinton emails. Later in an interview with Lester Holt, the president said he also thought about "this Russian thing" when firing him.

I don't agree with any group that promotes violence whether Antifa, BLM or White Supremacists. But the bigots as we witnessed in Charlottesville, are now donning khakis and polo shirts rather than hoods. And some hide behind their religious and political stances.

I think that Durbin, Graham and anyone who upholds respect for the office of the Presidency should have done exactly what they did, and that is to verify the remarks Donald Trump made. Unlike the Casper Milquetoasts who can't "recall" even though they attended the same meeting.

So you agree that the countries on the African continent and Haiti are shitholes?

Interesting that the White House response was that President Trump will always fight for the American people. Several hundred Haitian freemen fought for the "American people" side by side with Colonial troops in the Revolutionary War. And the president doesn't seem opposed to hiring Haitian workers at his resorts, does he?

Bunch of doubletalk to imply that the reference was about countries and not the people. The people are those whom he does not want in our country.

This has nothing to do with the fact that all of us want some resolution to the DACA and immigration discussions.

In the real world, Durbin and Graham would not be able to get away with going to the press with a business meeting supposed contents. I worked for an international company whose policy was simple - individuals do not give interviews or discuss company business or contents of a meeting without approval. They, like many organizations, had/have PR Directors on staff, both on a local and corporate basis who are the only employees permitted to control public discourse. Any other approach was and is disrespectful, as well as grand-standing. No one, including POTUS, commented or made statements against the PEOPLE of Haiti or the African countries, including not wanting them in our nation. Both have many decent, hard-working citizens - many also have governments that are????, resulting in countries the American taxpayer help in their overall daily existence/needs through financial aid, medical emergencies and acts of nature. Often due to corruption, lack of education, as well as various other reasons, many of these countries are, let's just say, not up to our standards

DACA is the result of an unlawful Executive Order signed and not solved by former President Obama. If the Democrats really were/are concerned about the status of those involved, they would have resolved the issue when they controlled the WH, House and Senate. There is no doubt they are looking for a mass increase voter registrations for the Democrat party.

General profile image

replying: to anonymous - 18 d 16 h ago

I also worked for a large, international corporation for many years. When someone in charge makes offensive, disparaging and or racial comments, it should no longer be considered to be private. By working for them, our work and attitudes should reflect their core values and they should represent ours, or we shouldn't be employed by someone whose values conflict with our own. And the CEO's of the company I was a part of would never have considered issuing memos ( a.k.a. tweets) publicly degrading their own employees.. Trump is to represent all of the citizens of this country and each and every one of us has the right and I feel the responsibility to speak out when insensitive ( I'm using a euphemism here) remarks are made.

Please stop with the Dems wanting only to increase voters numbers posts. Trump and his supporters are the only ones who continue to bring up the election results, numbers, popular vote statistics, voter fraud accusations and spewed mistruths about inauguration crowd size. Sadly for him, he is slowly turning even his own party against him, with the exception of the loyal base. There is absolutely nothing, regardless of how offensive he can or could be, that will ever turn them away. Shades of Roy Moore and his faithful "Christian" followers.

Sorry if I sound angry, but I am. Tired of this divided nonsense. Let's all grow up and support one another in spite of differences.

With respect to your views, you missed the point of posters comments. It doesn't matter who one works for, professionals do not repeat contents of meetings unless advised it is acceptable to do so. Professionals have, if nothing else, self-respect which enables them to enjoy credibility. In the case in question, Durbin and Graham were out-of-line in their grand-standing efforts. On a personal level, I do not approve of the supposed statement made. With that said, I would find it difficult to believe that disparaging remarks have not been made in other meetings, by other persons, by other leaders, by CEO's, and/or by department managers, to name a few. Concentrate on the positive, not the minutiae. Things such as crowd sizes are not worthy of anyone dwelling upon. They mean nothing - think manufacturing returning, tax reform for the first time in over 30 years, DOW at the highest ever in our history, increase in GNP, low unemployment with more jobs on the horizons, lowest unemployment within the African American community since these statistics began to be kept, Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, stifling regulations relaxed or eliminated so small businesses can grow, etc. Yes, like anything else, with good comes bad. POTUS is far from perfect and far from polished, but at least we are no longer on the road to Socialism.

As far as the Democrats wanting to build their voting registration. If you think their hearts are full of concern, think again. They did absolutely nothing to approach or resolve immigration issues while holding the majority in the WH, Senate and House. DACA was created by the pen of a Democratic President's unlawful executive order. We now are all faced with any potential repercussions, from financial aid/support or criminal elements as a result. If you do not already, try living in a sanctuary city or state.

Like you, I probably sound angry. As long as we buy into the divisive rehoric of the media, political parties and so on, sadly, nothing will change. It seems everyone is acting or speaking based on emotion, not fact.

With respect in return for your opinions, I agree with some but not with others, which is fine. That's what discourse is all about and your comments were thoughtful. Thank you.

My disagreement is related to what another poster said within the last week or so and I felt he or she had some important points. Sorry, I can't seem to retrieve the original post or who wrote it. It referenced that several times, posters have stated that they do not like or agree with degrading comments made by the President or others, but then proceeding to excuse them by saying that others have done the same, that disparaging comments are the norm in politics and business and should not be contested or revealed. My point is that I don't believe we should excuse these remarks and sometimes they need to be aired and protested. This is different than classified information. The decisions on immigration will impact all of us and also our reputations with other nations. The President was in a bi partisan meeting and could easily have voiced his thoughts on immigration control, DACA, without referring to people as living in "shithole" countries. There is debate from all sides about whether this was a "racist" remark. Regardless, it was crude and unnecessary. People can say all they want that it referred to the country and not the people but I don't buy into that . How would we feel if our country was labeled as a shithole?

In psychology, that's known as projection. Some Republicans, and I think including the President, are running scared and will set up any type of smoke screen to divert attention.

Good luck with that. Shades of Watergate and we know the result of that.

To the facts????????? - 9 d ago

The Russians were successful in creating division, confusion, emotional outburst, distrust and disrespect in our country. These are things important in their effort to interfere, cause chaos and disrupt free democratic elections - absolute necessities for the survival of their suppressive society directed by a authoritarian government. Their "supposed democracy" is flawed with elections rigged and opposition stifled. There are those among us so intent upon resistance they are placing our free, lawful election process in jeporady by refusing anything that does not agree with their personal agendas, political bent, hatred and tunnel vision. Unless actual proof and fact are presented beyond the shadow of a doubt, it is not, I believe, a wise idea to convict as you and others seem to be doing.

Sheila,

I don't understand if you are speaking exclusively about DACA refugees or the status of all illegals in the US. Generally, I believe most Americans will support a program to provide a special pathway to citizenship for the law abiding DACA people, even though they were admitted to the US under an unlawful act by Obama.

The other general population of illegals who fled here, need to be handled separately, with entirely different criteria used to evaluate if their lives are in danger if sent back to their home Countries. If their lives are not in danger they should be returned where they can engage in efforts to reform the governments that make their Countries shitholes.

As a further note, check your claim about most of the DACA people have been here for 15 years. They may have been here, but the DACA PROGRAM was an invention of Obama, and he was not President 15 years ago, thank God.

My reply to the reactions of my initial post; My remarks were just the first sentences to the Fox Reporters, which ended with my words of 'With hope for the future". I didn't mean to present Martin Luther King's quotes as a run-on from my initial statement. I had thought presenting MLK's quotes at this time would remind us ALL of the continuing need to widen our horizons in understanding how fortunate we are to be in the USA!

I don't put individuals in 'boxes called repubs, libtards, dotards,' etc. I have always felt strongly about the importance of Integrity Of Word Meaning.

Words/meanings are important. Name calling is just insulting. So MLK's quotes were all that I was encouraging others to read and to consider. I will not be a part of providing others further comments in order to just give them another slot to 'slam' a different point of view. I do feel encouraged that some have taken the time to share their sense of 'agree to disagree' in a civil, respectful way.

With all respect, here we go again with the Obama, Hilllary, Bill, all liberals, do and did it too. What difference does that make? Please deal with the situations that are presented. Just because "some else" did it does that make it o.k.? As another poster said, just because you have the right to say or do it, does that mean it's acceptable? Let's stop placing blame and respond to the content of posts. We've all made mistakes, including our Presidents. Regardless, they are accountable for their words and actions. Do you agree?

I have not once heard a positive comment from conservatives about former President Obama. Yet posters keep repeating that no President is "perfect". Where is the balance? Give credit where credit is due, whether it's for DJT or Obama.

Blaming - 16 d 7 s ago

Now we have a government shutdown. With a few exceptions in politics, both liberal and conservative, we seem to be heading toward a nation of blamers. This is apparent in many other areas as well. Constant bickering, about what the "facts", who was truthful, who lied, nasty comments flying back and forth. We also seem to be losing the ability to open our minds and hearts to those who hold different opinions, unwillingness to compromise, acknowledge mistakes or apologize when it seems to be the gracious and respectful thing to do.

Difficult enough for adults to watch this unfolding but as has been said many times before, the children are watching. What pathetic role models we are offering them and those who will serve our country in future generations.

General profile image

about blaming - 13 d ago

You are correct that we are becoming a nation of blamers.

Words have incredible power, both to inspire and unite, but also to promote hatred and division.

A recent ad which was endorsed by President Trump stated that Democrats who refuse to go along with the immigration plans would as a result, be "complicit" in any murders by illegal immigrants. Really? Yesterday it was reported on all media channels that a Michigan man was in custody for making 22 calls to CNN, making vulgar and racist comments and threatening to kill CNN employees. His rationale and motive? That they were "fake news". How many hundreds of times have we heard the President use that term to disparage stations and reporters, especially CNN? He has referred to them as "slime, disgusting human beings, the enemy of the American people.....". So, if this man had succeeded in carrying out murders, would all who rant about fake news be "complicit" in their deaths?

Response to about blaming

CNN not Donald Trump started this match up. The President has been under libelous attacks from this Network, ever since he became a candidate. Their White House reporter Jim Acosta, attacks every day at the press briefings. Trump has always said, if attacked he would respond many times stronger. CNN unfortunately has sullied it's former good reputation by becoming a partisan political operation. Therefore, they are labeled Fake News by Trump, and the term is spreading and sticking.

General profile image

Thank you. The team at Democracy for America

Thanks for your support of my original post. I can't figure out what all these disjointed bits of information was trying to convey in a coherent message. When I saw the organization she represented, and knowing it's history, I knew she was just trying to sell her Socialist Progressive message. For a better understanding of her organization, do a web search for 'Democracy for America'. Then judge for yourself if this organization promotes Democracy.

Secondarily, the President did have a MLK ceremony at the White House, that was attended by many African American leaders. He also awarded a grant to the new AA museum.

Your welcome. I am aware that "Democracy for America" is another Socialist Progressive group. The posters ramblings are indicative of their lack of understanding, respect, or belief in Democracy as we enjoy it to be in our free nation. Maybe a couple of years living in a Dictator controlled country or one that actually suppresses free thought, as well as actions, would help clear her mind.

On a personal level, I enjoy reading and listening to various views of those who make an effort to be informed on issues.

General profile image

To Anonymous - 18 d 20 h ago

You are definitely racist! So, everything is the Whites fault?? You're very ignorant and racist. God, I hope you didn't reproduce and continue your stupidity and racist ignorance. If you did reproduce, which I'm sure you did, hopefully your racist ignorance dies with you and not passed on to your kids. You do them no good by blaming everything on the Whites..because its a lie and if you're always blaming someone else for your short coming and failures, you'll never get any better. The blacks had slaves as well....you all don't talk about that or the fact there were white slaves also. Again, you are very, very shallow, ignorant and racist.

Reply to FBI is corrupt - 4 d 19 h ago

The hard-working, credible men and women of the FBI and Police communities who daily work on our behalf, keep us safe and often put themselves in questionable, if not dangerous, situations are not those who in question. Unfortunately, these brave peoples reputations has been soiled by a few overzealous top management personnel who chose to bring politics into their positions. These few chose to think they could "protect" us from freedoms as we know them and help keep us on a path of control and dictates as experienced in many non-successful governments throughout the world. With luck they will be held accountable - don't count on it!!

General profile image

regarding FBI is corrupt - 4 d ago

And who has soiled the reputations of these brave men and women more than Trump? Reread some of his tweets over the past year. He has disparaged these agencies and blasted some of them with ad hominem remarks. And he continues to do everything possible to interfere with Robert Mueller's investigation. He has admitted he's disappointed he is not permitted to have control over the DOJ and FBI. Still doesn't realize they are not "his guys" and that he does not have the right to demand "loyalty" from them.

Someone needs to give him a crash course on our Constitution and the separation and balance of powers in our government.

reply to 2 regarding FBI is corrupt - 4 d ago

So what do you object to about the comments?

Do you recall President Trump refusing to believe that Russia had interfered in the election? This is not saying that he colluded with them or that he was not duly elected. He is our President and I've never questioned that. All the intel sources, NSA, FBI and CIA agreed there was interference. Trump's response was to call them political hacks and also to state that he had asked Putin, Putin denied meddling from Russia and Trump said he believed him.

Pretty sad that he believes a dictator over our government agencies.

General profile image

Reply to: regarding FBI is corrupt.... - 1 d 17 h ago

Those who soiled the reputation of our heroic justice employees are the upper msngement personnel of the agencies in question. These men and women chose to bring their personal agendas and politics into their employment areas that require oversight of our daily protection, as well as open minds in an effort to insure our well-being. Instead they personally chose to ignore and disrespect the oath of allegiance they agreed and swore to when taking their jobs. To your statement - No one is interfering with Robert Mueller's investigation - he, on the other hand, has brought questions to the forefront by not selecting his team members more wisely. This process will move forward, hopefully, in a fair and unbiased way

You speak of rights- as pointed out in a previous posting by someone on this site. Just because you have the right to do or say something, it does not mean it I the right thing to do or say.

Does Fox not have someone better to do Sunday program? I don't have cable TV like many other people. So on Sunday mornings after hearing all the fake lying news on ABC etc. I tune into Fox Sunday program with Chris Wallace hoping to hear some true facts and information on what is really going on. I am disappointed nearly every week. This week not one word on great state of union speech. Wallace's take and presentation on the memo release is really not much different than ABC etc. And guests to support it were missing. Using Leon Pannets to give perspective on memo??!! Is that the best Fox can do? Wallace is a waste of time to watch.

The problem is that some people think they know, what they don't know. Usually these folks are quite verbos when stating emotional ramblings that are not factual. Generally their information originates from social media or talking points from politicians. The practice of skepticism seems to have disappeared from many people today. Gullibility can be dangerous in our modern society where so much is happening and changing at any given time.

can you advise or give me some light why Fox News has been removed by Cable Bahamas? they say your fees went up?? but is a cheap excuse because the group collects something like 600 millions or so so seem no good, then they said a Caribbean Cable Co-operative decided to remove from ALL Caribbean the news but have been informed that is not really the reality. I have created a big noise, sent messages to the Chairmain of Cable television and sent letters and interviews with the local newspapers. if could talk to someone will be more than happy. I have also proposed to have a different premium fee to have Fox News back on the network in the Bahamas......

reply to Michael Hawkins - 3 d 17 h ago

Nunes, a Trump stooge like Hannity, to put it mildly, hadn't even read the memo before he wanted it released.

Forget about Hillary. There may be some inmates you won't want to hear about in the near future.

For those who only watch Fox news, I offer a suggestion. We watch all stations and then try to reach informed opinions. Many never watch CNN or others because of course our President says they're all fake news and they wouldn't dare to betray him.. But CNN has had some excellent discussions with Carl Bernstein, John Dean, WH counsel under Nixon and Jill Wine-Banks, a prosecutor during the Watergate hearings, in addition to advisors who have served under Rep. and Dem. administrations. For those on this board too young to remember Watergate, please read about it, in detail. For those old enough to remember, it may feel like deja vu.Their experience, mistakes made and wisdom gained, is valuable during current times. If Trump chooses to fire R. Mueller or Rosenstein, which I believe he may attempt, stay tuned. He's setting himself up for major trouble. History often repeats itself and if we don't learn from it, shame on us. Main difference I see now is that during Nixon's term, some members of the GOP cared enough about this country to confront and withdraw support from Nixon. Today, less than a handful have the courage to confront or disagree.

Sage on America's future - 6 d ago

Hope some of you doubters had a chance to watch the President last evening. Anyone with an open mind, about the greatness of America, had a chance to hear it described in much detail by the President.

I had to feel sorry for Chuck, Nancy, and their acolytes, who sat there with forlorn looks, and wouldn't respond approvingly to statements detailing the improvements that has occurred during the past year. The Kennedy response was something that his grandfather would have said in the 1960's. This Party is stuck in a time warp, and they need to get rid of the old big government ideas, and start advocating for growth in jobs, by improving the climate for growth and competitiveness of American business and manufacturing.

I am a loyal fox news viewer but I find Juan Williams combative, rude, and tries to dominate the narrative on the Five. It has come to a point that I can't watch the show anymore. The points he makes are liberal talking points rather than intelligent argument. There are times when he doesn't even make sense. He belongs on tabloid news.

General profile image

Patricia, I had the same feeling about Juan while watching the Five today. As Trump becomes more successful as President, the liberals become more and more deranged. Juan appears on many of the Fox shows all day long, and he doesn't fit well in any of them. You and I are left to guess why he is still there.

Hello Fox News! I love Fox News and watch all day while I'm working. Here is the perfect example of my prior memo. Shep Smith said toady 1-30-2018 that Devin Nunes had complied the memo when he was supposed to have recused himself. If Shep had done his job and investigated he would have found that Devin Nunes did recuse himself while the ethics committee reviewed to make sure he had not done anything unethical. Devin Nunes was completely exonerated of any ethical violations or issues. Shep made it sound like Nunes was doing something unethical. Shep Smith is incapable of reporting the news without biased and actual FAKE information. He needs to be asked to leave Fox News.... he is unethical himself!

I don't agree that the postings do not help anyone in any way.

Kindness and respect do matter, whether from the President, differing political parties or each of us as citizens. And should be a part of bringing about many of the changes that I believe we all are hoping for.

When I recall remarks from former Presidents such as "the shining city on the Hill" and Lincoln's "our better angels", that focus seems to be missing today. What do you think?

Reply to: 4 Great Doctor's review, etc...... - 7 d 18 h ago

Medical examinations are to determine the health of a person. It does not have anything to do with character flaws or attributes. Important not to confuse one with the other. Knowing our President, whomever it may be, has received a good medical review should please everyone - just as it would if it were a member of your family or friends. The job of President is one of constant stress - not one you nor I would want.

You have a valid point in that focus today is nothing similar to the "kindness and respect" you and I grew up with, as well as were taught. Times are different - today, pride, moral compass and values seem to have taken a back seat to hatred, name calling, feelings of entitlement and disrespect. All of this is not to say the "good old days", as they are sometimes referred to, were pure, without flaws or non-controversial because they did have faults - and many of them, but we managed to get through, as well as solve them, with our heads proudly held high. With this said, I seem to remember pride in our country, our flag, all we stood for as a nation, taking precedence as we came together when the chips were down. One thing does come to mind as a constant - positive attitudes. No doubt the nay-sayers will weigh in, but i am interested in your thoughts.
